In this case, filters are used and Aura skips any photos with nudity, official documents, and also rejects poor quality photos (red eye, blur, poor lighting, etc.). In addition, the app offers Smart Select that can automatically upload new photos from your phone as they’re snapped (iCloud and Google Photos are also supported). There are a number of smart features that really make the Aura frame stand out.įirst, when manually selecting photos, the app will alert you if the resolution is too low (low quality photos can have a pixelated or blown out appearance), or if the orientation is wrong for the way the frame is set up -giving you the option to “reposition” or crop them. Aura frame Offline#
If your internet connection drops, the Aura frame will continue to display the locally stored photos, although the company says that if knocked offline for an extended period, it “will not operate fully.” Delete a photo from your phone’s camera roll and so long as it remains selected in the Aura app, it remains on your frame. Delete it from the app, and it's gone from the frame. Photos are also stored securely on Amazon S3 servers, giving you unlimited photo storage. But the Aura uses this local storage (they’ll only say the amount is “significant”) as a cache. But the designers went with a local/cloud combo for storage.Ĭhoose photos from your smartphone using the Aura app and they are immediately uploaded to the frame. One of the limitations that holds many photo frames back is storage, and on the Aura -which has an ultra-high resolution display- that problem could have been significant.
