A…apple, B…Bus (but you want to choose unique ones…that other players might not think of) When the time is up, each player shares what word they chose for each letter. So in 10 minutes you have to write down as many school words you can think of A-Z. For pairs and older children, 3-5 minutes is fun…then they have to think fast! Or work in pairs! Pairs are super fun in this game. Set the Timer…choose a time (we say 10-15 minutes because our kids are small) But for older children you could set it for less time. We are playing this version at our Back to School family night. If everyone has their own set of lists, there is less fighting and you know everyone can easily see the lists. My kids love playing Scattergories…but this little twist is a fun version, especially for smaller children and larger groups. Print a list for each person that is playing. That way they can easily erase any mistakes that they make or change their answer if they think of something better. When playing with younger children, I also like to use pencils. You can even have them help you make it! It’s always more fun when you make the lists together. Working with a partner takes out the frustration.Īnother adaptation I like to make is to create my own list on the blank one that is easier for kids. I also love working together on teams so that you can pair a younger child with an older one or with an adult. When you play scattergories with little ones it’s a good idea to add more time to come up with answers. Tips for Playing Valentine’s Day Scattergories Young Children For example: if the letter is H and you answer Honolulu Hawaii for a vacation destination, that would be two points. You get an extra point if you use the chosen letter at the start of more than one word.If you roll a letter that’s already been used, roll again to get a new one.You cant use the same word for two different categories. The first word of your answer must start with the chosen letter.
